TOM BIDDLE
My career in secondary English teaching spanned twenty years and four independent schools: Harrow, Latymer Upper, Whitgift and Bristol Grammar.
Throughout, I have been motivated by helping young people grow and thrive, both in their skills and in themselves. In September 2023 I moved out of employed school settings to explore ways to continue this work in a broader and freer context. In early 2025 my wife Emma and I set up Yellow Wood Education and Wellbeing Ltd as a vehicle for our work in those areas.
In the independent school sector, I have been fortunate to have had plenty of freedom to respond to the needs of individual students and be flexible in course creation and content, the better to engage and inspire students; I have also been able to engage students in lots of outdoor activity. All these are approaches that I bring to my current practice.
I continue to teach freelance from time to time at Oasis Temple Quarter, which helps me stay current in mainstream sector developments as well as the variety of lived experiences of children based in central Bristol.
The Yellow Wood ecosystem also includes a Foundation which makes small grants to charities with the same ends in mind as the company: helping people grow and thrive.
